History

Ritchot was officially incorporated as a municipality in 1890. Although early Ukrainian, Mennonite and Polish settlers settled in the Ritchot, the municipality owes much of its roots to the early French Canadian settlers. These settlers arrived in the St. Norbert region south of Winnipeg, before any parishes were established. Establishing their own churches, meeting halls and homesteads, the settlers quickly made roots in the new municipality, making Ritchot a rich mosaic of culture, hospitality and community. This strong French influence continues to be expressed in the community names.

Economic Base

Based on a strong agricultural farming, Ritchot boasts many prominent employers. Numerous affordable, serviced and sizeable lots located in the two industrial parks in Ste. Agathe, in Grande Pointe’s Maindu Park and in Ile des Chenes’ GenX development allow for future commercial/industrial expansion.
The urban areas provide many services for residents: financial institutions, post offices, community centres and arenas, gas and service stations, insurance brokers, schools and churches, stores, two fire halls operated by skilled volunteer firefighters, and an Emergency Operations Centre.
